– Epoxy Flake Systems –
Epoxy flake systems ( or chip, paint chip, fleck systems ) are available in a wide range of colors and flake styles, making it a highly versatile and customizable flooring option. Unfortunately epoxies yellow over time and will deteriorate in the sunlight. For instance, even with a full broadcast and a polyaspartic / polyurea clear coat, they’ll still break down. That’s okay because we have a proprietary system that eliminates the need for an epoxy base coat. To clarify, let me explain our process.
Our Process
Our 100% polyaspartic flake system is installed by preparing the concrete by diamond grinding the concrete. Next, we apply a permanent penetrating sealer that waterproofs the slab. This creates a moisture barrier inside the concrete. Therefore it eliminates the need for an epoxy that holds back hydrostatic pressure.
After the penetrating sealer has cured (24 hours) we apply a colored polyaspartic primer. The polymer flakes are broadcast directly into the polyaspartic base coat. After any loose flake is scraped and vacuumed up, a clear coat is applied. In addition, the polyaspartic clear coat is highly chemical resistant and lasts practically the life of the concrete. To clarify, these polyaspartic systems out performs the traditional epoxy flake system in all areas.
