Hello, my name is Nicholas Olen and I established Sweet Concrete Stone and Tile llc. in Star, Idaho in 2020. I worked in the hospitality industry for a decade, attended small business classes, did freelance graphic design, and print making. In 2008 I established Stone Improvement out of San Francisco, which was a natural stone, tile, and grout restoration company. I was trained by This Old Grout and Stone in Chandler, Arizona, and was also certified by three different sealant companies as a preferred applicator. In 2010 Stone Improvement started taking on concrete restoration and I found the process to be much more interesting than working with stone. From 2008 to 2015 I completed hundreds of jobs and received 15 Yelp reviews all five star. I sold Stone Improvement in 2015 and established Sweet Concrete after moving to Grass Valley with my wife and two children. Between 2015 and 2020 I completed over a hundred concrete jobs and truly became an expert in many different sealants and floor coatings. In 2020 our family moved to Star, Idaho because we wanted to be around more like minded people and a much better business environment. I currently do freelance web design in my spare time and actually built this website! I also love to spend time with my family, snowboarding in the winters and mountain biking and fishing during the summers. Life is sweet!

I recently decided to stain and seal the concrete around my pool. At the same time, I decided to resurface my concrete countertops. Since I had no experience in doing either, I decided to do some research. I found Nick via the Internet. Since I live on the East Coast, I knew Nick would not be able to do these projects for me. After talking with Nick, I decided to do both projects on my own. I say on my own, when in actuality, Nick was with me every step of the way. Nick provided me with detailed instructions on how to do both projects. What a coach he was! Nick told me exactly what to buy for material for both projects. During both projects, i needed to consult with Nick. Nick responded to me expeditiously when I need immediate assistance! Nick would be my top choice to do any type of concrete work! He was so professional, knowledgeable and responsive to my needs! Nick, I could have never done these projects without your coaching and positivity!! Thanks again for everything!!
Nick was awesome and knowledgeable about products. He was professional and did a great job bringing my concrete back to life. I tried applying a seal myself in the past unsuccessfully. If you’re thinking of doing it yourself, give Nick a call first. It will be well worth it.
Refinished our concrete patio. Completed exactly as agreed upon re: job and budget. Uses high quality materials, easy to communicate with. Went above and beyond on a very hot day to do the job right and as promised. Grateful he was willing to travel to our somewhat remote location. Front patio looks amazing. Highly recommended.
I had resurfaced my backyard patio to refurbish it but my DIY project didn’t turn out as expected. I hired Nick to polish down the rough spots & it turned out great! This was back-breaking work with him on his knees grinding down the high spots before using his floor polisher. My patio surface was exactly as I wanted it. Nick is my hero & I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him again…
I found Nick while researching which product to use to refinish my concrete kitchen countertop. I made the top myself 15 years ago and had struggled ever since to find a finish that would stay put. Nick suggested products that he was not even selling, which impressed me very much. As the conversation continued I was convinced to have Nick do the work…quite a give for a dedicated DIY’er. I am so happy I made that decision. There is a lot to know about prepping and applying finish to concrete, especially when there are multiple old finishes to deal with. Nick quoted a very reasonable price, showed up when he said he would, and did an incredible job! The work was professional, clean, and spectacular. I am an old general contractor with lots of skills but some projects just have a long learning curve and concrete finishing is one of those. I’m so glad I checked my ego and had Nick do this project for me. Plus he’s a really nice person and interesting to talk to. By the way, as I am quite a way from his home base, he spent the night and in addition to being an artist, he’s a perfect house-guest! Thanks Nick.
Nick is a true concrete artist. He helped me out on a job and it went from old worn floor to upscale commercial. I couldn’t be happier with the job and he’s just a really nice guy who truly cares about his work. If you want concrete restored, you need to call Nick and trust him!!
Nick just finished a job for us and it looks absolutely fabulous. Highly recommend. He knows his stuff and is a great person to work with.
I’m super happy with Nick’s work. In fact, I hired Nick again for another project for me. First project was a 500sq ft garage and now it’s a 1,000sq ft warehouse. He’s very detail-oriented, knows everything about concrete and is very passionate. Nick has a great artistic vision yet is capable to work within your project objectives and constrains. Hire him and you won’t regret it.
Nick was transparent, prompt, knowledgable, and enthusiastic with his work! It was great working with him from start to finish and he made time for a small job like ours with full commitment from the beginning. Nick helped us figure out what we wanted with colors and patterns and applied his artistic side to complete a very well done concrete countertop. Highly recommend reaching out to him for whatever you need!
“Nicks work is amazing. I watched him turn a cracked up old slab into a work of art.”
“Nick is a true professional, you will not be disappointed by his work!”
I was so very pleased with Sweet Concrete! I had self-leveling concrete poured by a very disreputable company and Sweet Concrete did a great job trying to correct their mistakes. He had to hone down the many parts of the floor that weren’t level. He also had to deal with a product that was not meant to accept stain. I would HIGHLY recommend Nick Olen and Sweet Concrete!
I found Nick and Sweet Concrete just by happen stance on Google. I’d had the idea of staining my downstairs concrete floor put in my head by a contractor buddy, and figured I’d just see what was available locally. His site was the the first listing to pop up, so I took a look. I was very impressed by the site, and then immediately by the work depicted on the site. It was obvious that my disaster of a floor would not be the first or the worst that he had encountered. I immediately called to inquire about an estimate. Nick replied promptly, and arrived a couple days later. I was initially struck by his unique personality. He is not your typical “trade” worker, and at first, I was slightly concerned based on my own biases, but he quickly alleviated those concerns with his depth of knowledge of the work, the process, artistic vision and mentality, and his confidence that he could help me accomplish my goals for the floor. After some discussion, he presented his estimated cost to me, which I found to be more than fair, and set a schedule to begin the work. He arrived promptly on the first day, and worked straight through all day. The whole process occurred in the frame of just a couple weeks (from estimate to completion), largely due to Nick’s strong and dedicated work ethic. I couldn’t be happier with the results, and in fact, it exceeds my expectations and desires. My floor work can be seen on the Sweet Concrete website movie #3 and is indeed impressive to see in that context. I would happily and heartedly recommend Nick to any one in need of floor restoration with an artistic flair.
Nick stained my old faded concrete and it looks amazing! It looks like new concrete. Nick was wonderful to work with and I highly reccomended him.
Nick sealed our stamped concrete patio. It had been previously sealed and his original process didn’t bond well and the sealer turned white. However, he came back in a timely manner and removed the seal with pressure washing and redid the job. This took him several days to solve the problem. It is perfect! We really were amazed and pleased with his customer service. It is refreshing to find someone that really has great ethics and does exactly what he promises when he quotes a job. We highly recommend Sweet Concrete!
